Hartley Law is delighted to have advised on the recent deal exceeding £24m, whereby four councils have extended their contract for services with Capita, outsourcing a number of key contracts.

Following a successful first 9-year term, Capita will continue to deliver key services to the councils, including Revenues & Benefits and Local Land Charges and will continue to do so until 2028.

Hartley Law have played a key part in advising the councils on this extension, with the value of the contract totalling £24,736,269.

Hosted by the Domestic Abuse Commissioner for England and Wales, Karenjit was invited to present and share her story and her views for change moving forward.

As a solicitor, a mother, and a survivor – my combined experience is one I aim to share in an attempt to drive the critical changes that are desperately needed. It is my belief, that the only way to design an effective response system is through using the knowledge, empathy and experience of survivors.” – Karenjit

Karenjit recently joined the Refuge team at the Ministry of Justice for a further meeting with Baroness Levitt KC to discuss the urgent need for reform across the family justice system.

The discussion covered a wide range of issues, including the operation of the family courts, the role of professionals within the system, Cafcass, the consideration given to children’s voices, and the ongoing divide between financial proceedings and Children Act cases.

The experiences of victims and children remained at the heart of these conversations. Concerns were raised openly and candidly, with a clear message that meaningful change is long overdue. Continued advocacy and engagement with policymakers will remain a priority to help drive forward the reforms needed to better protect and support families navigating the system.

We have heard from the famous Dr Gabor Mate, the learnings of the teachings from the Shaolin temple, Chan (Zen) from Shi Yeng Hi (mind, body and spirit) and the neuroscientist Dr. Tara Swart.

All of these learnings will be embedded into our family law practise.
